Kootenay & Boundary Food Producers Co-op (KBFPC) is a not-for-profit organization and has two constituent groups of members; farmers and secondary food processors. Our mission is to increase food security in our region by enabling our members to maximize their production capacity. We are serving their needs with a supportive infrastructure including; marketing and distribution and storage to extend the selling season. What members have in common is that they are local, producing fresh high quality food. In addition, some growers and producers are KOGS certified organic, some are KMG certified and some livestock farms are SPCA certified. Everything we distribute is from our neighbour farms and processing kitchens.
The Field Production Assistant will work at 4 different farms in the region, putting them in a unique position to gain a wide variety of learning experiences.

Duties and Responsibilities
● Preparing soil for planting
● Planting seeds and transplants
● Weeding, irrigating crops, and cultivating
● Monitoring plant development and pest/disease pressure
● Harvesting vegetables
● Preparing produce for market (ie. washing, trimming, packing, labeling)
● Record keeping
● Assisting with construction of infrastructure

Eligibility Requirements (Service Canada)
● Currently a full-time student who intends to return to college or university in the fall of 2017
● 17-30 years of age
● Canadian citizen, permanent resident or refugee

● Must have a vehicle and valid driver’s license, and be willing to travel to farms in Salmo, Fruitvale, and Beasley
● Must have work boots, rain gear, and weather appropriate clothing
● It is an asset for the applicant to be pursuing an education in an agricultural field
● Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
● Must be able to follow directions well and able to multi-task
● Must be physically fit and capable of working full days outdoors in all weather conditions
● The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in farming and an interest in continuing in this field

The job is for a 30 hour work week for 9 weeks, beginning on June 19, 2017
